Part 1 – Who really “IS the Image of God?”

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Man Made in God’s Image.

A common misconception in the secular world and even the religious world is that “we are all God’s children.” It is said, by many religious people that we are all made "in the image of God." Often this is taken from the following verse:

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27 (KJV)

But, is this still true?

The Bible stands in stark contrast to false religious teachings that say ‘We can see God in every person today.’  This is nothing but the notions of FALSE Religious gobbledygook of the worldly jargon promoted by the religions and churches of ‘nice.’

An Important Difference:

This brief study regarding “the image of God” explains the difference between;

  • Adam being made in the image of God” and
  • Christ being the actual visible eternally existent image of the invisible God

When God remade of the earth, Adam was then made “in the image of God.” So, there was only one man and one woman as originally made so by God (cf. Gen. 1:26-27).

There is Only One person born of human flesh who actually was and is the veryimage of God.” His name was Jesus of Nazareth who by His death and resurrection became “the spirit of life in Christ Jesus” for man’s eternal blessing.

[Jesus Christ] Who IS The Image of The Invisible God, the firstborn of every [new creation] creature:” (Colossians 1:15 (KJV)

So yes, Adam was made “in the image of God,” but Adam was NOT the image of God.” Adam was made after or according to God’s image, looking like God, but man was not God, nor do we become gods in any way, even as believers.

Until Jesus of Nazareth came, no man had seen God’s manifest presence.

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [manifest or revealed] him.” (John 1:18 (KJV)

What Happened to Adam’s Image?

Mankind’s image changed when “Sin and Death” entered by that one man, Adam (Rom. 5:12). By sin, “the image of God” that God had made became corrupted and ruined. God was righteous, but man was now sinful. God was life, but now man must die due to his sins.

The word “image” here above in the Hebrew is ‘selem,” meaning “an empty illustration or representation of God. Though Adam looked like God as the man, Jesus of Nazareth later would by in form, Adam was without the eternal resurrected life and nature of Jesus Christ.

But then of course after the fall of Adam, Adam was no longer was ‘empty,’ or void of a nature, rather Adam was now filled with the Sin-nature of the evil Serpent. Adam was full of “Sin,” which “when it is finished bringeth forth death” (1Cor. 15:56). Adam thereby then had the governing Sin-spirit in his body’s flesh as a nature to misguide man, prompting Adam and all his prodigy who are born of sinful Adam’s lineage – born ‘in Sin.’

Adam was originally created to be God’s man on the earth but this viral infection of Sin in Adam is now passed to all men causing all men to die physically. Satan’s plan was that by causing Adam to Sin, God would not have a representative on earth in the man He created, all men would die and Satan would rule the creation as he had for many years before Adam was even made in God’s image.

“In Adam all die,” (1Cor. 15:22) and every man is born in Adam’s own likeness,” made in Adam’s sinful fallen image and destined to also die.

“… sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (James 1:15b (KJV)

Adam’s Sin infection is passed on in the flesh of all menfrom generation to generation in the likeness of fallen Adam.

“And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in His OWN [Adam’s] Likeness, after His [Adam’s] Image…” (Genesis 5:3 (KJV)
