Part 1 - A Dispensational Change

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Deliverance from Suffering.

Does God, in this day of "the dispensation of the grace of God" (Eph 3:2) deliver Christians from suffering?

In this day of the "dispensation of the grace of God" He still delivers his trusting ones who suffer with physical infirmities and other difficult situations and the circumstances of life, but not necessarily as He had in "time past." Today God as Father is at work in the lives (Philippians 2:13) of every member of "the body of Christ" according to His will, His grace and His mercy, as only He cares and knows what is best for His children.

As we read the Biblical historical record we see the many miraculous deliverances of Israel. He provided everything for them during their time in the wilderness. We read of the miracles of Jesus of Nazareth in the accounts of the four Gospels, which were signs to confirm Jesus' declaration that the Messianic Kingdom of heaven was then "at hand" for Israel. After Jesus' crucifixion and Pentecost, we see a continuation of miracles by the hand of God through the ministry of the twelve Apostles when the Messianic Kingdom was actually being offered to Israel during the early Acts period (Acts chapters 2-5).

Jesus and the twelve were able to heal "all" that came to them (Matt 12:15, Luke 6:19, 9:11, Acts 3:6, 10:38). Matthew 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the with his word, and healed ALL that were sick:

Jesus had instructed the twelve to continue as He had done (Luke 9:6).They also the twelve healed all that were with them.

Acts 5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed EVERY ONE.

But, that power of these sign-gifts waned or "diminished" and ultimately ceased as the dispensation changed due to "the fall" of Israel.

Romans 11:12a Now if the fall of them (Israel) be the riches of the world (Gentiles), and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles...

Never since that day has "ALL" that came been healed or delivered in any healer's ministry. In fact, such healings are rare and not ever due to any healer's work, but rather to the mercy of the Lord on the individual, as He alone wills it.

As we see in Paul's latter ministry, even the mighty Paul, who earlier healed and raised the dead, found that healing was no longer the order of the day – the signs and wonders had ceased in Paul's life with the change in dispensation that occurred when Israel fell and was set aside (cf., Rom 11:11, 25,  more on this later).

Today, God no longer heals or delivers at the hand of any man as an intermediary, prayers or laying on of hand or anointing with oil. Those sign-gifts that were dispensed to the early Acts Pentecostal church have ceased, just as Paul had said they would. Today the Lord will "sometimes" heal according to His mercy in accord with His plan for the life of the one involved.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

This is because Jesus of Nazareth is ascended to heaven and "the twelve" Apostles to whom were given these callings and gifts have passed. This is because these "sign-gifts" were only to lend credence to the preaching of "the kingdom of heaven" while it was still being offered by the Twelve. That offer of "the kingdom" passed and Israel was been set-aside for a time with the fall of Israel by their rejection of the Hoy Spirit by their stoning of Stephen in Acts 7:58. Thus Paul wrote of this in time of Israel's set-aside in Rom 11.

Romans 11:25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Israel rejected the King and His Kingdom that was being offered and confirmed by these signs and wonders until the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7. Israel has fallen (Rom 11:2). The prospect of Israel's hoped for Messianic Kingdom on earth has been set aside, put in abeyance "until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in" (Rom 11:25). God's program for Israel has had the pause button pressed while He turned to the Gentiles.

Acts 28:26-28 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28 BE IT KNOWN THEREFORE UNTO YOU (Israel), THAT THE SALVATION OF GOD IS SENT UNTO THE GENTILES, AND THAT THEY WILL HEAR IT.

Its only after the Rapture of "the body of Christ" that the Lord will take up with and deal with Israel again and then via the 7-year Tribulation period to then bring "the Kingdom" to earth. Until then the dispensation has changed from "the Law" to the never prophesied "the dispensation of the grace of God."
