The fourth kind of Christian is what I call “The At Rest Christian.” They are those who have embraced all the four “new” things that Jesus spoke of in parables the “new garment” and the “new wineand “new wineskin.”

  1. The At Rest Christian enjoys the “new garment” of Christ’s righteousness, which is… made of the “fulled (whitened) cloth” …  being wash of their sins by “the blood of Christ.” (cf. Eph. 1:7)
  2. The at Rest Christian possesses the “new wine,” of the “Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:2) in them as their new and eternal life, thus they enjoy Christ’s inner power and spontaneous guidance for living righteously. (Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 3:16, 18, 25).
  3. The At Rest Christian lives under the authority of the “new wineskin,” which today is Christ’s governing “Spirit of life” who lives within each member of “the body of Christ.”

The “at rest” Christian is a ‘grace believer’ who enjoys all these truths listed above. They recognize the finished work of Christ at Calvary’s Cross, possessing all of “the riches or the glory of the mystery… which is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col. 1:25-27).

We as grace age believers are committed to studying and learning of the epistles of Paul, “the Apostle to the Gentiles”; knowing they are written specifically to us and for us in this age of “the dispensation the grace of God” (Eph. 3:2). We also study and enjoy “all Scripture” as being “for our learning” (2Timothy 3:16). What we now know has changed our life, enabling us to enjoy the rich of the inheritance in the saints” (Eph. 1:18)

a. We as grace believers “rest” upon the written “word of God,” We’ve learned to “rightly divide … the word of truth.” Thus, we are able then to discern what of the Scriptures applies to us and what does not.

b. We are the “at rest” knowing His Spirit regenerated us (Tit. 3:5) and that we’re saved by grace through faith” in Christ’s cross-work alone. Now we live by Christ in us as our life. (Gal. 2:20, Col. 1:25-27)

c. We know we are “in Christ,” clothed in the “New Garment” of His righteousness (Col. 3:3-4).

d. We know Christ lives in us as the “new wine” of “the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.” (Rom. 8:2a)

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Gal. 2:20)

e. We know we are free from all external religious “Law” as well the externalities of manmade tradition, ritual, rites, observances, and governance by any institution or organization. (cf. Col. 2:16)

f. As members of “His body,” under Jesus as the “Head of the body” we know we’re free from any manmade hierarchical systems of rule over us; we’re free to obey Christ in us as The Lord of our life.

As the “the Head of the body” He is its brain, full of wisdom instructing us from within.

“And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Col. 1:18)

g. We know Him intimately as our “life,” and that He alone as our Lord, our governor, and our new inner person; regulating, empowering, and guiding us. (Gal. 5:16, 18, 25).

h. We have embraced Christ as our absolute “ALL” (Eph. 4:6).

Thus, we enjoy the fruit of all that Christ is to us by… God’s “grace.”

  • Being saved by grace through faith alone relieves us of the burden of performance under “the law.”
  • We know and enjoy the riches of Christ in us as our inheritance from God our Father.
  • We know enough to cease from working to try and earn the favor with God (cf. Heb. 4:12).
  • We know we have already “been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heaven places.”
  • We know have Entered “His REST” … being yielded to rely upon His governing and empowering life... to do His work... as He directs and leads us.
  • We know our eternal destiny is to dwell “eternal in heavens” with Christ (Phili. 3:20-21, 2Cor. 5:1).

Thus, the “At Rest Christian” enjoys the rest and peace that is for all those who have “ceased from their own works.” Our genuine good works spring from His Spirit moving and guiding us from within (cf. Eph. 2:10).

he that is entered into his (God’s) rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. (Heb. 4:10)

“The At Rest Christian” has clearly seen by “revelation of the mystery” (Eph. 1:15-18), and is thereby enabled now to enjoy and rest in their union with the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” in their “spirit” (cf. 1Cor. 6:17). We are endowed with all “the riches of the glory of His inheritance that is IN the saints (Eph. 1:18b).
