Part 2 – The Riches of The Glory (The Full Expression) of This Mystery

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called “The Riches of The Glory of This Mystery Among the Gentiles”.

Jesus Christ, with all the riches of our new relationship with God, which flows to us via His cross-work is the Riches of the glory (the full expression) of this mystery.”

It is important that we have a clear understanding of Col. 1:27. If we don’t understand this for what it actually says, we will, as some teach and believe, erroneously conclude that Christ living in us is somehow very mysterious. We thus would lose the dispensational truths the verse is conveying, which the average Bible reader misses because of their denominational eyeglasses. It is misread because it is not understood in light of the dispensational boundaries and so it then unnecessarily changes in God’s Word. I’ll explain. That boundary is the Cross … as explained by Paul in his epistles to us and for us as “His body” in this age of God’s pure grace.

The “mystery” (secret) in Col. 1:27 is not something hard to be understood or something ‘mystical.’ It is something that “was kept secret,” a body of truth that God kept secret, until He revealed it to the Apostle Paul for us. Paul’s “revelation of the mystery” is that doctrine circulating amongst the Gentiles only via Paul’s preaching and writing, which has abundant riches for us today

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my (Paul’s) gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, (Romans 16:25 (KJV)

What exactly are the riches of the glory of the mystery?

Only Christ as viewed in light of Paul’s multi-faceted revelation is the Riches of ‘the glory’ of “the mystery.” Paul’s mystery doctrine brings Jesus Christ glory and praise. Paul says he “preach(ed) Christ        and Him Crucified” that His name becomes valued and esteemed richly in hearing and learning the details of the mystery doctrine of the mystery program.

What are some of these riches of the glory of this mystery? The word “glory” may be defined practically by the word ‘expression.’ Just as the flower’s blossom is the full expression of the life within the seed“the riches of the glory of this mystery” are the expression of Christ’s Cross-work and His resurrection life “in you as the ‘Seeded life’ of Father God. (1Pet 1:23, Gal 3:16). God made a way “in the Son,” to bring us to union with Him, as was accomplished through the cross-work of His Son Jesus Christ, providing us all the riches needed for living in union with Father God.

These are some riches unique to “the body of Christ,” not applying to Israel’s salvation.

  • We were “foreknown” and therefore “chosen” to be “in Christ” and to be “seated in the heavenly places,” from before the world began.” (Eph. 1:3-4). Israel’s destiny is on the “new earth.”
  • Our destiny is heaven… forever (Philip 3:20-21, 2Cor. 5:1). Israel is promised the “new earth.”
  • We are “saved by Grace through faith, not of works(Eph. 2:8-9). With Israel its ‘faith plus works.’
  • We “are under grace, not under the law (Rom. 6:14) Israel is under the Mosaic and Messianic Laws.
  • Thus, we are now “one with” and “complete in Christ.” Israel must “endure to the end” for this.
  • We have been “sealed (securely) with the Holy Spirit” (Eph. 1:13). Israel must “endure to the end to be saved” (Matt. 24:13).
  • Upon believing we are now “redeemed”now freed from being slaves to the Sin-nature.
  • We are now “justified by faith” alone (Rom. 5:1) so as to “stand holy and blameless” before God.
  • We today have constant “access to God” by our union with Christ in us (Rom. 5:2).
  • We are now free from the power of “Sin in the flesh.”
  • Upon believing, we received total “forgiveness” of ALL sins, past, present, and future sins. (Eph. 1:7)
  • God does not impute or count our sins (read Rom. 4:5-6)
  • Upon believing, we became a “new creature” (2Cor. 5:17) whereby “all things are new.”
  • God is ever working to renew our soul (cf. Phili. 2:13, 1:6) with “the mind of Christ” which is now resident in us by Christ in our spirit. (cf. Rom. 8:9-10).
  • We aren’t of a covenant; our relationship is by regeneration, being literally born of Father God.
  • We have no external ‘Laws’ to keep, we have no performance is requirement!
  • We have no “mediator” but Christ alone (1Tim. 2:5), for He is our priest before the Father.
