Part 2 – Roman Catholic Church Contradictions Concerning ‘Salvation’

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Roman Catholic Church Contradictions.

Below I provide five questions with related Bible verses taken from The RCC’s Roman Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible’ comparing them with … related Roman Catholic Catechism Doctrine, with parenthesis containing the Roman Catholic Catechism’sparagraph number(s).’

Five Key Points of ‘The ‘Doctrine of Salvation’ According to the RCC

  1. Is the RCC ‘Salvation Gospel’ based 100% Upon the Cross-work of Jesus Christ Alone?

RCC Bible says Salvation is Not of yourselves, for it is the Gift of God; Not of works”:

“For by grace you are Saved through faith, and that Not of yourselves, for it is the Gift of God; Not of Works, that no man may glory.” (Eph. 2:8-9)

“Now I [Paul] make known unto you, brethren, the gospel [good news] which I preached to you, which also you have received, and wherein you stand; By which also you are saved, if you hold fast after what manner I preached unto you, unless you have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all, which I also received: how that Christ Died For Our Sins, according to the scriptures:And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day, according to the scriptures: (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

But I fear lest, as the serpent seduced Eve by his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted, and fall from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (2Corinthians 11:3)

BUT the RCC Catechism says, NO, as it preaches a totally different gospel … demanding these Several Additional Requirements for Salvation according to the RCC Catechism.

  • the seven holy sacraments (1129), The seven sacraments are baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, penance, anointing of the sick, marriage and holy orders. They are divided into three categories: sacraments of initiation, sacraments of healing and sacraments of service.
  • meritorious masses (1405),
  • RCC membership (846),
  • purgatory (1030),
  • indulgences (1498)
  • water baptism (1256)

At the end of which you never know if your loved one made it or, if you yourself clearly qualify for salvation.

  1. Is RCC Salvation of God and Not of man?

RCC Bible says: [Christ] In whom you also, after you had heard the word of truth, (the gospel of your salvation;) in whom also believing, you were signed with the holy Spirit of promise, (Eph. 1:13) Those “Who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:13)

But the RCC teaches that “[water] Baptism is sacrament of regeneration … without which no one can enter the kingdom of God” (1213, 1215).

  1. Is RCC Salvation Through Faith Alone in Christ ALONE and NOT of our Works?

RCC Bible says: For by grace you are saved through faith, and that Not of yourselves, for it is the Gift of God; Not of Works, that no man may glory. (Eph. 2:8-9)

Not By The Works of justice, which We have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renovation of the Holy Ghost;” (Titus 3:5)

But the RCC teaches salvation through faith PLUS works. People can obtain their own and at the same time cooperate in saving their brothers through good works and indulgences (1477, 1499)

  1. Is RCC Salvation by Grace or is it by One’s Own Earned Merit?

RCC Bible says: Justified Freely by his grace, through the redemption, that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:24)

“And if by grace, it is Not Now By Works: otherwise grace is no more grace. (Romans 11:6)

But the RCC denies justifying grace as undeserved saying:We can merit for ourselves and for others all the graces needed to attain eternal life” (2027)

  1. If RCC Salvation is Rejected Does it Lead to Eternal Destruction

RCC Bible says: In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God, and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his power: (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)

But the RCC teaches that “Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer eternal fire” (1035)
