Part 2 of 15 – Knowing by the Spirit of Christ Within

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Two Kinds Of Knowledge.

There’s a new level of “knowing” that we have as Christians, as seen by a Greek word for “know,” which is “eido.”  This kind of knowledge is the spontaneous, automatic, sense, or intuitive knowing we have from within our spirit. Just as the with outer physical senses - see, smell, touch, taste, and hear are automatic, so long as we are live, the sense the believers possesses is operational by the presence of the indwelling “Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:2a).

This is an innermost knowing that believers possess as an intuitive perception “in spirit – a knowing that is deeper than our mind.

How does the believer gain the new “sense knowing?”

It is by having been “born-again” of Christ’s “Spirit of life” that came to abide in the believer’s human spirit. John 3:6b that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 1Cor 6:17 he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Whereas in John 3:6, above, we see two spirit’s – “Spirit” and “spirit,” which are God’s Spirit and our human spirit. In 1Corinthinians 6:17 Paul tells us the believer’s spirit has become joined to the Lord such that they are now “one spirit.”  Paul often uses the term “the spirit,” referring to this eternally joined “one spirit” in the believer. When Paul says “walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh” he is referring to walking in accord with this “joined spirit” within us. In order to walk in accord with the spirit we, as a soul with a mind, need to have understanding that comes from “the spirit.” Thankfully, we as believers do possess this knowledge, innately or intrinsically.

This knowledge is the crucial, primary awareness believers possess by Christ’s Spirit within their spirit.

1 John 4:13 Hereby know (ginosko, experientially know) we that we dwell in him, and he (Christ) in us, because he hath given us of his (Christ’s) Spirit.

1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know (eido, sense know) all things.

1 Cor. 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is

of God; that we might know (eido, sense know) the things that are freely given to us of God.

1 John 5:20 And we know (eido, sense know) that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding (danoia, perception in mind), that we may know him (ginosko, come to know Him experientially) that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

We as believers intuitively have the “mind of Christ” (mind is “nous,” intellect) within us, speaking within us.

1 Cor. 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind (nous) of Christ. (Spontaneously working in our spirit, as an automatic "sense knowing.")

Paul’s offers us some of his own life examples of sense knowing; He was guided by the indwelling Spirit.

Acts 18:5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit (his), and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

Acts 16:7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed (tried) to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not (would not let them alone).

To walk In the spirit is to “Walk according to spirit” … by your spirit…mingled with Christ’s Spirit.

Galatians 5:25 If we live (since we have life) in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit (affirmative action), and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
