Part 6 – Jesus Atoned for the Sins of ALL men!

This Article is part of a multi-part Study Series called Calvinism & Arminianism Versus Dispensationalism.

The “L” in the Five Tenet TULIP is for “Limited Atonement.”  By this the Calvinists erroneously believes Jesus’s atoning sacrifice on the cross was payment for the sins of onlysome’ people, those whom He had “chosenas His elect.” Thus they hold to a ‘Limited” atonement.

Yes, in “time past” that was true of Israel, as seen here;I will ransom them (Israel) from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death…” (Hosea 13:14); but not applying to Gentiles. No place in O.T. prophecy says Jesus (Messiah) would atone for the sins of Gentiles. So Atonement by Christ’s cross-work would appear to be limited to Israel if you did not read Paul’s epistles. Nowhere in O.T. prophecy do we read that Christ would die for all, to include the Gentiles. Many Gentile believers try and apply the famous prophecy, Isaiah 53 to themselves where the prophet of Israel, Isaiah says: All we (Israel) like sheep have gone astray,” and “the Lord hath laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all (all Israel) (v6). But, this verse does not include the Gentiles in “us all.” If I say “all of us” are going on an outing, this does not mean the world is invited. Isaiah as a prophet of Israel speaks to Israel only. Note that Isaiah goes on to say: “For the transgression of ‘my people (Israel)’ was He (Jesus) stricken” (v8). Isaiah 53 is speaking of Jesus dying for Israel only, distinguishing Israel from the rest of humanity; though we know He died for all.

By contrast, Paul wrote that for those of this age of “the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24), Jesus atoned for the sins of ALL men,” not just a “chosen” people.  (God) Who will have ALL men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6Who gave himself a ransom for ALL, to be testified (evident) in due time. (1Tim. 2:4-6)

Here above Paul states emphatically that the glorious truth of the gospel was first committed specifically to him for “ALL MEN” – not ‘some.’ Note the words “to be (made evident) in due time” (v7). This glorious message of Christ’s death for all was not part of prophecy or even of the so-called “Great Commission,” but it was only later committed to Paul… “in due time.”

The verses below clearly reveal that God planned our path, assuring us to arrive at our destination. Every genuine believer is to be “conformed to the image of Christ” and these verses tells us how we will get there… it is by God working in and through the “all things” that occur in our lives.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For (those) whom he did FOREKNOW, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (Romans 8:28-30)

Just as with your airplane ticket, it’s according to what destination is written on the ticket when you bought it. When you believed you were then predestined to arrive at… being “conformed to the image of His Son.” (Rom 9:29). Those who are already believers are predestined to have their soul renewed and conformed to the image of Christ; and this accomplished by God’s ongoing work through the “all things” of life. “…though our outward (body) man perish, yet the inward (soul) man is renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

“… it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians. 2:13)

Paul wrote this to the believers at Ephesus, as well as at Rome;

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, (so) that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having (already) predestinated us (we who are believers) unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, (Eph. 1:4-5)

In whom (in Christ) also we have (already) obtained an inheritance, (then) being predestinated according to the purpose of him who (continually) worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.” (Eph. 1:11)

We are “savedin spirit by “regeneration(Titus 3:5), and we are now being saved in soul renewal.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of (by) the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5)

We will yet be saved in bodily at the rapture, which Paul calls “the adoption.” We are now the spirit birthed children of God and our “adoption” will occur with the “redemption of our body” at the rapture.

“And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Romans 8:23)
