Walls Broken Down

Walls Broken Down

In the Bible the Apostle Paul speaks of a wall that separated all mankind into two parts. In Ephesians 2 “the Law,” the ‘Ten Commandments,’ is called “the middle wall of partition.”

God gave “The Law” to God’s covenant people – the Nation Israel through Moses.

The Gentiles had been given up at the Tower of Babel, when God called out Abraham and his seed and gave them the Law. He set Israel above all people (Exo 19:5), if they kept His Law. His plan and expectation was that that through Israel He would one day bless the whole world. But Israel broke His Law and even killed His prophets.

Yet, Romans 3:19 says to all men:

Whatsoever the law saith it saith to them that (Israel) are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped and ALL the world may be brought in guilty before God.”

The Law was NOT given to make Israel or mankind better, but rather to ALL convince mankind of their utter hopelessness, in themselves, to meet God’s standard of righteousness… and that they would need a Savior.

Now, because of the broken Law ALL men (Jew & Gentile) have been placed on the same level, as sinners. Yet this also was God’s purpose, that in His grace... He might have mercy upon ALL.

“For God hath concluded them ALL in unbelief: (so) that He might have mercy upon ALL (Rom. 11:32).

Now God offers salvation to ALL men through Christ, who died for the sins of ALL men at the cross of Calvary. This is why Paul wrote this in Ephesians 2:13-16.

But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who once were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Jew & Gentile)… so that He might reconcile both unto God in one Body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.”

Thank God there is no more “wall” between God and those who trust His Son, nor between believers who have been made “one Body in Christ.”

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond (slave) nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
