Grace

Grace Not Earned

Have you ever noticed that God does not hold the great men of Scripture up to us because of their personal goodness? Almost invariably their records are marred by failure and sin, but God bids us look at their faith, to see what their faith did for them. Even those who lived consistently good lives are not held up to us for their personal worth, because God knows their imperfections. Thus Rom. 4:2,3 says:

Part 1 – Introduction: “Rest” for the Trusting Christian

Jesus came to Israel saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST. (Matt. 11:28) Jesus first offered His “rest” to Israel, who then was under “the Law” and under Israel’s corrupt religious leaders (Matt. 23:2-4, 33). God offers rest to all those of all dispensational ages who would only ‘trust in Him.’

Sin & Grace

The Devil, as "the father of lies,” always hates the truth. Yet, he does not always oppose it by the same methods. If he fails to succeed as a "roaring lion" he may appear as an "angel of light," suggesting that surely a God of love will not condemn Christ rejecting men forever.

I note that the "slanderer" has recently resurrected some of his old lies, which may go like this as he misuses Scripture to deceive men.
