God’s Law vs God’s Grace

By Arthur J Licursi

Most Christian denominations promote keeping “the Law” in order to be saved, kept saved and /or to be blessed of God. Though that was true for Israel, it is not so today. Most today neglect Paul’s epistles for today’s Gentile “church” called “the body of Christ.” Paul wrote how that Jesus took “the law” and “ordinances” out of the way… nailing them to His Cross.

13 And you, being dead in your sins [‘with Christ,’ Rom. 6:3] and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened [made alive] together with him [Christ], Having Forgiven You All Trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances [Laws] that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it [the Law] out of the way, nailing it to his cross; Colossians 2:13-14 (KJV)

So, we have been delivered from Israel’s Law Program into God’s Gentile Grace Program

14 … for Ye Are Not Under The Law, but Under Grace. Romans 6:14b (KJV)

Neither are we to expect good works will save us. Grace is something that is totally FREE. Depending upon our performance under a works based religious program denies the pure grace of God. Paul wrote;

6 And if [salvation be] by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Romans 11:6 (KJV)

Sadly, those who think they are able to keep God’s righteous laws and be okay… don’t realize the Law of God is so far-reaching that IT CONDEMNS THE BEST OF US… for who can really keep it? John wrote; if we say we can keep it then “we lie.” John wrote this to Israel;

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

Paul says we are not justified and saved by law-keeping, and… if we think we must perform in order to be saved, then we make the Cross of Christ meaningess

4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Galatians 5:4 (KJV)

The deceived law-keeping folks need to know that God has provided a Freely offered way of Salvation for us today during the age of “The dispensation of the grace of God.”

Today His “grace” is freely extended to all men through the Cross-work of Jesus Christ, to all who will “believe” … so now His GRACE COVERS EVEN THE WORST OF US.”

Paul calls this:

21 … the glorious liberty [freedom] of the children of God. Romans 8:21 (KJV)

It is after we are saved by grace through faith alone (not by any of our so-called good works) the grace of God that teaches how to live successful lives… by deny sinful living.

Our motive is changed. Now, being saved by grace, we love and appreciate Him and His love toward us; so, We Now Want to live a Righteous Life.

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Titus 2:11-12 (KJV)
