Understanding The Bible

We Must Learn The Three Divisions of Truth Contained in Scriptures we call The Bible

The revelation of truth given in the Scriptures comes to us in these three forms:

1. Foundational Truth

2. Dispensational Truth

3. Practical Truth

What do we mean by Foundational or Doctrinal Truth?

“Foundational Truth” embraces all that has been revealed concerning the Being and Attributes of God and all that God has done, commanded, promised, or foretold in Creation, Law, and Grace.

For instance the bible statement, All have sinned” is true under whatever dispensational age in which we may be called. Another, “God is Just” is as true “under grace” as it was under “the law.”

By contrast, the statement “To the Jew first was true during the period covered by the Acts period, but it cannot today be put into practice since the dismissal of the Jews in Acts 28:27-28. This statement, therefore, comes rather under the next heading.

What do we mean by “Dispensational Truth”?

Dispensational Truth takes note of God’s purpose of the ages, and the changes that God has introduced since Creation, such as may be denominated Dispensationally as; the Dispensation of Innocence, the Dispensation of the Law, the Dispensation of the Kingdom, the Dispensation of Grace, the Dispensation of The Church, the Dispensation of Mystery, etc.

It is the activity of noting ‘Dispensational Truth’ that helps us to decide whether any particular doctrine (be it command, promise, calling, or prophecy) pertains or does not pertain to any particular individual in a given Dispensational age.

‘Dispensational Truth’ leads the believer to distinguish between the blessings such as say, ‘The meek shall inherit the earth,as compared with those blessings which are described as ‘all spiritual blessings’ and to be enjoyed 'in heavenly places.'

What do we mean by “Practical Truth”?

Not until doctrine has passed the test of Dispensational Truth can Practical Truth then be put in its proper place and applied. It is obvious that the people of Israel called to be a “royal priesthood” and “holy nation” with its sphere of influence On The Earth, could Not be called upon to put into practice the injunctions of Paul’s Ephesians Chapters 4 to 6 that are set In The Spiritual “Heavenly Places.”

In like manner, today’s Church that Paul called the One “Body of Christ” has no guarantee that obedience to Israel’s special truth and calling will result in its prescribed blessing. Those who abide Israel and are “under the law have a very different form of practice from those who today are under grace.” “…  for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14b (KJV)

It is only by loyally preaching and teaching The Truth of God as related to these three aspects that we can become workmen who “needeth not to be ashamed,” for only by so doing shall we “rightly divide the Word of Truth” as we are instructed by Paul as “the Apostle to the Gentiles” (Rom. 11:13).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

To all who discern the ‘things that differ’ (Phil. 1:10 marg.) and who seek to obey the injunction to “rightly divide The word of Truth (2 Tim. 2:15), we very warmly commend our prayers that your studies of “The word of Truth lead you by The Holy Spirit into the All Truth of God's Perfect Word.
