The Glory of Our Perfectness

Col.3:14 And above all these things put on charity [love], which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

We as “children of God” are given the doctrine of godliness so as to be “followers of God as dear Children.” And as many ‘children’ desire to be ‘like’ the parents, there are some who will not be a ‘chip off the old block’ concerning being in their parents ‘likeness.’ But our Father has provided for us the renewing doctrine that we too can be “followers of God, as dear children” (Eph. 5:1). Our Father’s design for godliness is patterned after Himself and His Son Jesus Christ. It is by their likeness that we are “beseeched” to walk by as “sons.” And as we know our Father and His Son are “Perfect,” and they would have those in Christ Jesus to “stand Perfect and complete in all the will of God” (Col. 4:12). And our ‘standing perfect’ is according to God’s will, and what He says is “that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”

Yes, we will never meet man’s requirements for ‘perfection,’ but in His sight, we can be as the faithful sons who are walking in love as Christ also.

Col.3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Furthermore, the “bond of perfectness,” is the doctrine of the life of a godly son who walks by the doctrine of our Lord Jesus Christ. And as Paul mentioned in Colossians 3, the saint ’puts on,’ and then puts on more, and he puts on the “New man,” and he also ‘puts on’ charity. This is how the “son” ‘proves’ what is “that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” daily. It is walking “in” the doctrine of “perfection” unto the Father “day by day.” And even though the son will never be ‘functionally sinless,’ each day is another day to “reprove” the unfruitful works of darkness, and to yet “abound” more and more in His love, and knowledge of His will.

And as it goes with our children, those who walk according to our standards of success and standards for them, they are going to ‘come to a bump in the road’ every now and then, but now they have another opportunity to take what we have taught them, and they can use OUR knowledge in their circumstances. This is what we desire from our children, and that they ‘come back for more’ of our knowledge as they live their lives, whether by what we have already taught them, or by them coming to us for more wisdom. This is the ‘way’ that would be well pleasing unto us, this is the ‘perfect way’ for our children’s education and lives in our sight. Paul wrote of such.

1 Thess.1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; 4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. 5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became followers [imitators] of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

Moreover, our operating in the “bond of perfectness” is given us by our Father as we see in Colossians chapter 3, right after Paul warns the Saints earlier about those evil men trying to hinder their “perfectness.” And this “perfectness” can be hindered, or ‘overthrown’ by those desiring to “spoil” the Saints through “philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” And Satan fully understands the danger our perfectness  is to his plan to “be like the Most High God.” And notice all the ‘tactics’ of men Paul gives as a ‘warning’ unto the Saints, he says that they will “judge,” “beguile,” “spoil,” and use “enticing words,” desiring that you follow their “commandments and doctrines.” Satan that a “perfect” Saint will walk in his Father’s will, and Word, and he we “live godly,” and he will not give “heed” unto Satan’s “wiles.”

Col.1:28 [Christ] Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

Finally, our walking in the doctrine of “perfectness” is what the Apostle Paul teaches, and what our Father desires. And notice what Paul says in the verses above, it is God’s will that “every man” ought to be “perfect in Christ Jesus.” This does not mean being a ‘sinless Saint,’ this means walking as a ‘Living Sacrifice’ (cf. Rom. 12:1-2). Walking in the doctrine which is according to godliness “day by day,” and “watching,” and taking “heed” unto ourselves, and proving” ourselves daily by His Word which is designed to work effectually within us. And as we have received this glorious privilege to “prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God,” there will be Satan’s devices, and different wiles in our “path” on a daily basis. But this is where the “excellency of the power of God” works for us when we are faced with Satan’s wiles. And the first thing the Saint must do is expose Satan’s darkness, we have to be able to differentiate the will of this world, and what is the Perfect Will of God. And begin to walk in His Father’s will, and be “led by the Spirit” day by day as a son walking by his Father’s will in godliness.

Col 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ

2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in [religious laws concerning] meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [real substance] is of Christ. 18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
